A laptop GPU now leads the Valve Steam survey, and AMD CPUs reach an all-time high
Steam survey reveals an RTX 4060 laptop GPU lead and AMD CPU peak.

In the latest Steam survey, a significant shift has occurred with the RTX 4060 laptop GPU surpassing all others to become the most popular GPU among participants. The RTX 4060 experienced the largest increase in users in April 2025, growing by 0.51% to capture a 4.99% total share. Previously, the RTX 3060 held this spot, and it has been more than three years since a laptop GPU led the survey. This development indicates a growing preference for mobile gaming configurations among Steam users.
The survey also highlighted the debut of the RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, expanding the chart's lineup of Blackwell cards along with the RTX 5080. On AMD's side, the Radeon RX 7800 XT has finally gained enough popularity to join the survey rankings, indicating a strengthening position in the GPU market. However, the Radeon RX 7800 XTX has yet to make a similar impact, remaining absent from the chart.
In terms of CPU usage, AMD has achieved a historic high in user share, marking a 38.68% presence in the Steam survey. This success is attributed to the widespread adoption of AMD processors, notably the Ryzen 9800X3D, supported by gamer enthusiasm and diminishing approval for Intel's latest Core Ultra series. Analysts suggest that it won't take long for AMD to corner four out of every ten CPU users on Steam.
Examining operating system preferences, Windows 11 continues to attract more users, driven by the impending end of support for Windows 10 in November 2025. As of now, Windows 10 maintains a 38% user base among Steam's audience, whereas Windows 11 is installed on nearly 58% of systems. According to data from Statcounter, Windows 11's gradual rise in share marks a significant transition in the broader market as Windows 10 loses ground.
Amongst system configurations, a shift from 16GB of RAM to configurations with 32GB or more has been observed. Notably, 16GB RAM has decreased to 43.8% in popularity, while 32GB configurations have risen to 33.5%. Furthermore, the Oculus Quest 2 remains the VR headset of choice among participants, although the Meta Quest 3 is in close contention, being only 5% behind in user adoption.
