A real-life Severance keyboard is here, complete with a built-in trackball
Atomic's MDR Dasher replicates Severance's keyboard with retro charm.

Atomic, a custom keyboard brand, has released an extraordinary piece of hardware inspired by the popular Apple TV+ series "Severance." The "MDR Dasher" keyboard replicates the retro-futuristic style seen in the show, bringing the fictional world of Lumon Industries to tech enthusiasts' desks. The keyboards from "Severance," designed for the Macrodata Refinement department, echo the design of the vintage Dasher terminals from Data General, celebrated in the late '70s and early '80s for their robust construction and utilitarian look—characteristics the series adopts to complement its narrative.
The MDR Dasher keyboard retains the distinctive features of the show, inclusive of its 70-percent compact layout and a total of 73 keys. However, in a move reflecting the show's undertone, certain keys such as escape, control, and option are notably absent. These design choices pay homage to Lumon Industries' oppressive regime and its enigmatic founder, Kier Egan, enhancing its allure for fans of the series.
Visually, the keyboard makes an impact with its elevated profile and thick borders, seamlessly pairing muted blues and a grimy white frame to create an industrial appeal. The central section is dominated by lighter blue keycaps, while darker shades appear elsewhere on the keyboard, offering a striking contrast that contributes to its vintage charm. A unique addition that bolsters its appeal is the integrated trackball, replacing a standard mouse and evoking nostalgia among those familiar with older office equipment setups.
Adjustments have been made to the on-screen version to make it compatible for contemporary use. This includes a USB-C connection, providing seamless integration with operating systems such as Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its aluminum casing not only ensures durability but also exudes a premium feel, solidifying its retro-futuristic aesthetic.
Pricing for the MDR Dasher is not officially confirmed, with early figures suggesting around $399, pending the resolution of tariff considerations. Atomic has opened pre-launch sign-ups for this limited-edition keyboard, expressing homage to "Severance" by engaging users to immerse themselves in a simulated Macrodata Refinement environment.
