Amazon Kindle finally gets color
Amazon introduces the Kindle Colorsoft, featuring in-house color tech with improved battery for $280.
Amazon launches the Kindle Colorsoft, presenting a breakthrough in e-reader technology with its proprietary color feature that diverges from conventional e-ink displays. By applying five filters combined with front light, the Kindle Colorsoft achieves eye-friendly colors akin to print, whereas competitors like Kobo use traditional color e-ink systems that have faced mixed reviews.
Despite the added color functionality, Kindle Colorsoft experiences minor battery life reductions; however, Amazon compensates with technology like the oxide back pane, enhancing page turn speed, and incorporating a larger battery. Further conveniences include waterproof attributes and wireless charging capabilities, promising users up to eight weeks of reading time per charge.
The Kindle Colorsoft retails at $280, marking a $90 increase over the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, yet remains $120 cheaper than the Kindle Scribe. With pre-orders commencing on Wednesday and shipping planned for October 30, Amazon aims to rejuvenate the e-reader market with this advanced model.
