AMD accidentally confirms Radeon RX 8600 and 8800 GPUs are also coming

AMD hints at new RDNA4 graphics cards aiming for early 2025 release.

: AMD has given a strong indication of launching two new RDNA4 graphics cards, the Radeon RX 8600 and 8800, early next year, possibly unveiling them at CES. A commit on AMD's GitHub page mentions these GPUs, and further confirmation came during their latest earnings call. These new cards, expected to compete with Nvidia's GPUs, promise enhanced AI features and improvements in ray tracing. AMD is set to focus on mainstream GPUs, a battleground against Nvidia's RTX 5060 and Intel's Arc Battlemage.

AMD has inadvertently confirmed plans to reveal Radeon RX 8600 and 8800 graphics cards, likely introducing them at CES next January. This revelation comes from multiple sources, including GPU designations labeled as "gfx12" in their firmware code seen on AMD's GitHub page and statements during the company's recent earnings call.

The announcement aligns with AMD's strategy to improve ray tracing performance and introduce advanced AI features, aiming to narrow the gap with Nvidia's RTX cards, which currently have an 88 percent market share. Leaks suggest that the upcoming RX 8800 XT model may outperform Nvidia's RTX 4080 Super in ray tracing, marking a significant performance boost over the 7900 XTX.

Going forward, AMD plans to concentrate on the mainstream GPU market, engaging with Nvidia’s RTX 5060 and Intel’s Arc Battlemage. This focus comes amid the understanding that Nvidia's forthcoming RTX 5080 and 5090 will dominate the high-end spectrum. Meanwhile, updates like FSR4 aim to enhance AMD's upscaling technology, reinforcing AMD's positions in the energy-efficient computing domain.
