AMD's Frank Azor insists the Radeon 9070 and 9070 XT will be sold at MSRP despite reports of imminent price hike

AMD's Radeon 9070 prices remain at MSRP despite hike fears.

: AMD's Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT will sell at MSRP, assured by Frank Azor. Initial fears of a price hike were due to retail signals, but AMD guarantees $549 and $599 prices for the base models. Premium versions may cost more. Positive reviews highlight the 9070 XT's value and competition with Nvidia's GPUs.

AMD launched their Radeon RX 9000 series cards, including the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT, with prices of $549 and $599, respectively. Post-launch, rumors of a possible price hike arose because of certain retailer claims that the MSRP would only apply to a limited stock. However, Frank Azor, AMD's Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions, dispelled these rumors, stating in an interview with The Verge that the MSRP would continue beyond the initial sales, regardless of stock levels.

Retailers like Inet.se in Sweden and Overclockers in the UK stated that only a few units, around "a few hundred," would be available at the advised prices before an increase. Speculation was further fueled by Best Buy's listing approach, which implied temporary savings of $80 and $130 on the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT, respectively.

In a Twitter post, Azor assured that AMD, in collaboration with AIB partners, is committed to maintaining the MSRP pricing, allowing for high demand while avoiding abrupt price increases. He clarified that more expensive, premium versions would be available to meet diverse consumer needs, which would justify higher price tags instead of altering the base prices of the cards.

Reviews of the Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT have been positive, especially praising the RX 9070 XT as a robust rival to Nvidia's mid-range offerings, making it an attractive deal for consumers provided AMD keeps the promised supply.

The marketing narrative has placed these GPUs as significant contenders against Nvidia's products, especially the RTX 5070, positioning the RX 9070 as a smarter economic choice if AMD sustains the $549 pricing strategy.
