AMD's Radeon RX 9060 XT may surpass Nvidia in producing budget GPUs more effectively

AMD's Radeon RX 9060 XT aims to outshine Nvidia's budget GPUs with competitive pricing and performance.

: AMD is attempting to make significant strides with their Radeon RX 9060 XT by competing directly against Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5060 Ti. The new GPU, showcased at Computex, promises solid gaming performance at 1440p for a suggested retail price of $300 for the 8 GB version, while the preferable 16 GB model is only slightly more expensive at $350. The 9060 XT, set for release on June 5, features the RDNA 4 microarchitecture and offers either 8 GB or 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, making it a cost-effective option for budget-conscious gamers. Despite uncertainties regarding its detailed specifications and overall performance compared to Nvidia’s offerings, AMD aims to maintain an affordable price amidst ongoing market challenges.

At Computex 2025, AMD unveiled the Radeon RX 9060 XT, positioned to challenge Nvidia's dominance in the budget GPU segment. It will launch on June 5 in two configurations: 8GB for $299 and 16GB for $349. Built on the RDNA 4 architecture, it features 32 compute units, a 3.13GHz boost clock, and supports DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b. AMD claims the 16GB version outperforms Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti by about 6% in 1440p gaming based on tests across 40 titles.

The RX 9060 XT includes 2,048 stream processors, 32 ray tracing cores, and 64 AI accelerators, delivering up to 821 TOPS. It runs at 150W to 182W depending on the model. With a 128-bit memory interface and 20 Gbps GDDR6, it reaches up to 320 GB/s bandwidth, offering solid throughput for a midrange card.

AMD's internal benchmarks suggest that the 16GB RX 9060 XT offers better performance-per-dollar than the RTX 5060 Ti. However, the 8GB version may struggle with newer AAA games due to limited VRAM, making the 16GB option the more future-proof choice.

AMD’s pricing strategy is intentionally aggressive. According to AMD’s GPU division lead, the company aims to provide strong value for gamers. Still, there are no reference models—availability relies on board partners, which could result in inflated retail pricing depending on region and demand.

Overall, the Radeon RX 9060 XT is shaping up to be a compelling choice in the affordable GPU market. If its real-world performance matches AMD's claims and partners keep prices in check, it could become a go-to option for budget-conscious gamers.
