Anthropic will use AWS AI chips after $4 billion Amazon investment
Anthropic partners with AWS using Trainium chips after $4 billion Amazon investment.
Anthropic and Amazon have solidified their relationship with an additional $4 billion investment, with AWS becoming Anthropic's primary cloud and training partner. This collaboration comes as part of Amazon's strategy to integrate its in-house Trainium and Inferentia chips into Anthropic's operations, switching from NVIDIA's silicon.
Going further, Anthropic is collaborating with Amazon's Annapurna Labs to enhance the Trainium chips. This deep technical collaboration involves writing low-level kernels to interface directly with the Trainium silicon and contributing to the AWS Neuron software stack, aiming to extract the maximum computational efficiency for training their advanced foundation models.
This investment supports Anthropic as it navigates heavy anticipated expenditures of more than $2.7 billion, crucial for maintaining their competitive edge against AI giants like OpenAI. Before this investment, Anthropic had already amassed $9.7 billion, positioning itself strongly in the AI sector amidst the fierce competition.
