Apple advances with M6 and M7 chips, smart glasses, and artificial intelligence chips in a comprehensive silicon roadmap
Apple is advancing its M6/M7 chips, smart glasses, and AI server processors for breakthroughs in performance, wearables, and AI.

Apple is pushing its silicon technology forward, with plans to release the M6 and M7 processors in the coming years. The M6, codenamed "Komodo", is expected in 2026, followed by the M7, "Borneo", in 2027. These chips are anticipated to revolutionize processing capabilities with configurations reaching up to 256 CPU cores and 640 GPU cores, a significant leap from the current M3 Ultra, which features 32 CPU and 80 GPU cores.
Apple’s efforts extend beyond traditional computing devices. The company is entering the smart glasses market with a new chip, the N401, which draws on the low-power design principles of the Apple Watch to manage various integrated cameras efficiently. This move positions Apple as a direct competitor to Meta, which is developing its Ray-Ban smart glasses, showing Apple's commitment to expanding its product ecosystem into new areas of consumer technology.
Artificial intelligence is another focal point for Apple, particularly in server applications. In collaboration with Broadcom, they are developing the "Baltra" AI server chip. Scheduled for mass production between 2026 and 2027, this chip is expected to handle demanding AI-related tasks in the cloud, potentially replacing Mac-grade processors like the M2 Ultra. This development aims to enhance Apple's cloud capabilities, boosting their AI processing efficiency for improved device intelligence.
As part of their diversification strategy, Apple is also focusing on high-end desktop models with a new chip, "Sotra", targeting professional users seeking top-tier performance. In parallel, they are developing camera-equipped AirPods and new modem technology expected to improve iPhone wireless connectivity in the coming years.
