Apple unveils CarPlay Ultra; Aston Martin first to adopt, showcasing personalized, flexible features with cutting-edge tech.

: Apple has unveiled CarPlay Ultra, an evolution of its in-car software, with Aston Martin being the first automobile manufacturer to implement this system. CarPlay Ultra integrates deeply with the car’s system, spreading information across all driver screens including the instrument cluster, and offers real-time readouts for various metrics such as speed and RPM. The system allows customization of themes blending automaker design elements with the user's preferences and supports controls through touch, buttons, and voice. Aston Martin's CEO Adrian Hallmark expresses enthusiasm about the enhanced personalization, while other auto giants like Hyundai and Kia also plan to integrate CarPlay Ultra, highlighting Apple’s expansive influence across the auto-tech industry.

Apple has officially launched CarPlay Ultra, its next-generation in-car infotainment system, with Aston Martin becoming the first automaker to adopt it. CarPlay Ultra brings a fully immersive iPhone experience across all driver-facing displays, including the instrument cluster. It allows for deep customization, blending vehicle data with Apple widgets and giving drivers control over features like climate, radio, and performance settings via Siri.

The rollout begins with Aston Martin's latest models, including the DBX, Vantage, DB12, and the upcoming Vanquish, in the U.S. and Canada. Owners of 2023 and newer Aston Martins with the latest infotainment system will be eligible for an upgrade starting June 2025, provided they have an iPhone 12 or later running iOS 18.5 or newer.

Apple collaborated closely with Aston Martin to tailor the CarPlay Ultra interface to match the brand’s luxury design. Drivers can customize themes, wallpapers, and even instrument cluster layouts. The system’s widgets, powered directly from the iPhone, seamlessly integrate into Aston Martin's 10.25-inch screens, offering a sleek, personalized driving experience.

Beyond Aston Martin, Apple has confirmed that CarPlay Ultra will be coming to other brands such as Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis later in the year. However, some automakers, including Mercedes-Benz, have been hesitant to adopt the updated platform, citing concerns over software control and branding.

CarPlay Ultra represents a major step in Apple’s automotive strategy, turning iPhones into the central brain of the car experience. With growing user demand for seamless phone-to-car integration, the system sets a new benchmark for digital dashboards in the luxury vehicle segment.
