Apple may tap into a beloved retro design for its smart home display
Apple's upcoming smart home display may resemble the retro iMac G4 design.
Apple is reportedly developing a new smart home display that will feature a retro design reminiscent of the early-2000s iMac G4. According to Mark Gurman, this device will have a small, square screen positioned at an angle on a base, similar to the iMac G4's circular bottom. The initial model, expected next year, will likely have a screen about the size of two iPhones side by side and support applications such as FaceTime and Calendar, besides controlling smart home functions.
Another version is also in the works, which will come equipped with a robotic limb capable of adjusting the display's position. This higher-end model is predicted to be released by 2026 and may cost nearly $1,000. Both models are expected to include Apple's AI features, providing users with extensive home automation capabilities.
These devices are seen as a nod to Apple's design heritage while incorporating modern smart home technology. They are part of Apple's broader strategy to expand its presence in the home automation sector, offering stylish and functional solutions for modern households.
