Apple may update Find My to let you share locations of lost items
Apple's new Find My update allows sharing lost item locations via links, even with non-contacts and non-Apple devices.
Apple is exploring a new functionality in the iOS 18.2 developer beta that could greatly enhance the Find My app's utility. This feature enables the sharing of location details for lost items, including devices like iPhones and AirTag-equipped items, with individuals outside the user's contact list through a shareable link lasting a week.
This link can be accessed on any device, expanding the potential for locating lost items. Additionally, Apple introduces a 'Share Contact Info' feature, aiding those who find the items by providing them with the owner's contact information, assuming the user has chosen to input those details.
Current capabilities of the Find My app include sharing locations with those already in your contact list. The added functionality of tracking user engagement through the number of link visits adds a strategic layer to item recovery efforts, indicating a user-friendly advancement in Apple's location-based services.
