Apple rumored to launch AI-powered home device, merging HomePod and Apple TV
Apple may launch an AI-powered device, merging HomePod and Apple TV, featuring Apple's A18 chip and OpenAI's GPT-4o LLM.
Apple is rumored to be developing a new smart home device that combines the capabilities of HomePod and Apple TV. Code discovered by MacRumors suggests it may feature a new identifier 'HomeAccessory17,1', indicating a significant update with an A18 chip and Apple Intelligence support.
The device is anticipated to include a speaker and an LCD screen, making it competitive with Amazon's Echo Show and Google's Nest series. It could act as a smart home hub, using a blend of tvOS and HomePod software, potentially under the rumored name homeOS.
Launching this September, the smart device might also integrate OpenAI's GPT-4o LLM to assist with AI tasks, similar to ChatGPT. This advancement is set to be part of a broader rollout of Apple Intelligence features across iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.
