Apple's redesigned Magic Mouse should address ergonomics and poorly-placed charging port
Apple plans to redesign the Magic Mouse focusing on ergonomics and charge port issues.
Apple plans to redesign its Magic Mouse for the first time in 15 years to address user complaints about ergonomics and the charging port placement. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that engineers at Apple have been working on several prototypes over recent months to modernize the peripheral.
The original Magic Mouse introduced in 2009 was hailed for its touch-sensitive surface but faced criticism for its non-ergonomic design. In 2015, the Magic Mouse 2 was released, which improved battery life with a rechargeable Li-ion battery, but the poor choice of a charging port on the bottom made it unusable during charging.
Gurman suggests that the charging port location is one of the primary changes Apple is considering for the new design. The redesign may retain popular features like the touch-sensitive surface, with the aim to differentiate from competitors while fixing past criticisms. The redesigned mouse should be expected in 12 to 18 months.
