Uber Eats has launched autonomous sidewalk delivery robots in Jersey City through a collaboration with the tech company Avride. Announced in October 2024, this partnership aims to integrate Avride's delivery bots and autonomous vehicles into Uber's platform, with previous rollouts in Austin and Dallas.

Jersey City poses a unique challenge, particularly with its February weather conditions that include snow, rain, and freezing temperatures, testing the capabilities of Avride's bots. Despite these potential obstacles, the bots boast functionality in moderate precipitation and cover an optimal delivery range of one to two miles within a one square mile downtown radius.

Several local restaurants, such as Michelin-rated Jiangnan and Rumi Turkish Grill, are participating in the program. Customers using the Uber Eats app can choose traditional couriers or monitor their bot deliveries, receiving notifications when their food arrives and using the app to unlock the bot.
