Benchmarks suggest 8-core Snapdragon X Plus laptops may be terrible at gaming

Benchmarks show Qualcomm's 8-core Snapdragon X Plus underperforms in gaming, lagging behind the Snapdragon X Elite across multiple tests.

: Benchmarks reveal the 8-core Snapdragon X Plus, expected to debut at IFA 2024, is underwhelming for gaming. The new chipset scores lower than the 10-core Snapdragon X Plus in various CPU and GPU tests. In games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, it performs significantly worse than its Snapdragon X Elite counterpart. The chip was tested on an ASUS ProArt PZ13 laptop.

Benchmarks indicate that the upcoming 8-core Snapdragon X Plus processor may not be ideal for gaming, with results showing it lags behind its 10-core version in key performance metrics. Specifically, in Cinebench 2024, the new chip scored just 102 points in the single-core test and 649 points in the multi-core test.

The Snapdragon X Plus also performed poorly in rendering and general processing tasks, with high times in Blender's render test and low scores in Geekbench 6. The GPU, an Adreno X1-45, showed equally disappointing performance in 3DMark benchmarks, far below that of the Snapdragon X Elite's GPU.

Gaming benchmarks for titles such as Shadow of the Tomb Raider were particularly underwhelming, with the chip barely managing 18 FPS at low settings and 12 FPS at high settings in 1080p. These tests were conducted on an ASUS ProArt PZ13 laptop, featuring LPDDR5X-8448 memory and running Windows 11 build 26100.
