‘Bioshock’ Film Adaptation Still in the Works With Scaled Down Budget; It’s a ‘More Personal’ Movie, Says Producer Roy Lee
Netflix's 'Bioshock' film adaptation has been reconfigured for a more personal touch with a reduced budget, according to producer Roy Lee at Comic-Con 2024.
Netflix's film adaptation of the video game 'Bioshock' is moving forward under the direction of Francis Lawrence. Producer Roy Lee announced during San Diego Comic-Con 2024 that the project is moving in a more personal direction with a significantly reduced budget.
Initially announced in February 2022, the 'Bioshock' adaptation is a collaboration between Netflix and game producers 2K and Take-Two Interactive. The game, originally released in 2007, is known for its complex narrative and has sold over 39 million copies worldwide.
Roy Lee also discussed Netflix's new compensation strategy during Collider’s Producers on Producers panel. He noted that Netflix is moving from advanced buyouts to a viewership-based bonus system similar to box office metrics, aimed at incentivizing producers.
