Bluesky tops app charts and sees ‘all-time-highs’ after Brazil bans X

Bluesky sees surge in users and tops app charts in Brazil after X ban.

: Brazil's ban on X benefits Bluesky, which saw 500,000 new users in two days and tops free iPhone app chart. Bluesky CEO Jay Graber praised Brazil's decision. Legal issues between X and Brazil's Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes led to the ban. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva shared his social media handles, including Bluesky.

Brazil's court banned X (formerly Twitter), significantly benefiting rival platform Bluesky. Bluesky reported 'all-time highs for activity,' gaining 500,000 new users within two days and topping the free iPhone app chart in Brazil, edging out Meta's Threads.

Bluesky CEO Jay Graber praised Brazil's choice, highlighting the platform's remarkable growth since fully opening to the public in February. Originally announced in 2019 with Twitter's backing, Bluesky has become an independent public benefit corporation; Twitter founder Jack Dorsey left the board earlier this year.

Elon Musk's X has been embroiled in legal conflict with Brazil's Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes over the platform's refusal to block certain accounts involved in election disinformation. Following threats of a ban and fines from Moraes, Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva directed his followers to alternative social media accounts including Bluesky.
