ChatGPT Search is not OpenAI’s ‘Google killer’ yet

ChatGPT Search isn’t yet a strong Google alternative.

: ChatGPT Search, launched by OpenAI, struggles with short, navigational queries like Google, which hinders its goal to be a 'Google killer.' While it excels in handling longer, detailed questions and presents clear links to information, it struggles with real-time accuracy and reliability. Examples include mistakes in sports scores and company earnings. Improvements are planned, but currently, Google remains more practical for everyday searches.

OpenAI has released ChatGPT Search, an ambitious tool designed to compete with Google in the search engine market. While it shows potential, particularly in answering longer and more complex questions, it falls short in managing straightforward, navigational queries that are commonly used on Google, such as sports scores or simple product searches.

Users often find ChatGPT Search lacking in accuracy for real-time information, as evidenced by incorrect scores in ongoing sports events and outdated financial reports. This issue is partly attributed to its reliance on Microsoft Bing, considered less effective than Google, and its use of large language models that need well-defined prompts.

Despite these challenges, OpenAI plans to gather user feedback and refine the product's capabilities. This suggests that while ChatGPT Search currently presents an interesting alternative, especially for in-depth inquiries revealed through direct links to sources, it is not replacing Google for web navigation tasks essential to daily internet use.
