ChatGPT told 2M people to get their election news elsewhere — and rejected 250K deepfakes
Chatbots directed millions of users to reliable election news sources.
During the recent election, ChatGPT redirected approximately 2 million inquiries to trusted news sources such as Reuters and the Associated Press. This action demonstrated a cautious approach by OpenAI to ensure users accessed reliable information instead of relying solely on AI-generated responses.
Leading up to the election, ChatGPT also pointed around a million potential voters to CanIVote.org for voting-related questions. Moreover, it rejected 250,000 deepfake image requests, highlighting OpenAI's commitment to maintaining integrity in the information shared during this crucial period.
Perplexity, the AI search engine, saw its election information hub accessed 4 million times, reflecting significant engagement from users. Despite CNN's higher traffic of around 67 million visitors, the growing trust in AI platforms for information shows their increasing role in news consumption.
