Concord is going offline two weeks after its PS5 and PC launch

Sony's team shooter 'Concord' will be taken offline after just two weeks; refunds will be provided to all buyers.

: Sony and Firewalk Studios will take the team shooter Concord offline on September 6, after only two weeks of release. The game was priced at $40 and debuted with less than 700 concurrent players on Steam. Sony will refund all buyers, citing a need to explore better options to reach players. Despite many positive aspects, the game suffered from various shortcomings and strong competition.

Sony and developer Firewalk Studios announced that the team shooter Concord will be taken offline on September 6, just two weeks after it launched. The $40 game was available on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, but will no longer be purchasable, and all buyers are eligible for refunds.

According to game director Ryan Ellis, while many aspects of the game resonated with players, other aspects of the initial launch did not meet expectations. Concord struggled with low player engagement, reaching no more than 700 concurrent players on Steam and selling around 25,000 copies across platforms in its first six days.

The game's mediocre reception and strong competition from free-to-play shooters like Overwatch 2, Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Sony's own Destiny 2 contributed to its downfall. This decision marks a significant failure for Sony, although Firewalk may attempt to retool Concord into a free-to-play model in the future.
