DeepL launches DeepL Voice, real-time, text-based translations from voices and videos
DeepL introduces real-time translations with DeepL Voice for 13 languages.
DeepL, a renowned German company valued at $2 billion, is branching out from online text translation to introduce DeepL Voice for real-time voice translations. The service currently supports voice recognition in 13 languages and provides text-based translations, with captions available for 33 languages, focusing on live conversations and video conferencing mainly through Microsoft Teams.
The unique selling point of DeepL Voice is its ability to operate in real-time, making it suitable for immediate interactions unlike many AI services that work with delays. Despite the current limitations, such as the lack of audio or video outputs and wider app integrations, DeepL is emphasizing the development of its proprietary technology over reliance on external large language models.
Addressing privacy concerns, DeepL assures users that while voices are sent to their servers for translation, no data is retained or reused for training their models. The service is anticipated to be useful across different sectors, including the service industry, enabling employees to effectively communicate with a diverse customer base.
