Dwarf Fortress' roguelike Adventure Mode gets full Steam launch this month

Adventure Mode for Dwarf Fortress gets full Steam release on Jan 23.

: Dwarf Fortress' roguelike Adventure Mode will be fully launched on Steam on January 23rd after a nine-month public beta. Players can explore procedurally generated worlds with RPG elements. Previously, it was available only in the ASCII format and not part of the 2022 Steam release. Developers Zach and Tarn Adams thank testers and ensure ongoing updates to both game modes.

Dwarf Fortress' much-anticipated Adventure Mode is scheduled for a full launch on Steam on January 23rd, subsequent to a protracted nine-month public beta phase. This mode allows players to dive into a roguelike RPG experience within Dwarf Fortress' deep, procedurally generated worlds, in contrast to the standard colony management gameplay.

Though Adventure Mode has been part of Dwarf Fortress' free ASCII version for many years, it was not included in the 2022 Steam launch, which introduced a more polished edition with sprite-based graphics and easy UI. In May, developers Zach and Tarn Adams introduced the mode's beta on Steam, acknowledging initial gaps such as additional graphics and functionalities that beta testers helped identify and refine.

As of the latest announcement, developers expressed gratitude to the beta participants and assured continued development for both Adventure Mode and Fortress Mode. They released one of the last beta updates prior to the full launch, incorporating numerous enhancements, and underlined that further updates would cater to improving both gameplay experiences.
