E-ink technology meets interactive storytelling in new hybrid handheld console

The Ink Console combines e-ink tech with interactive storytelling in a new handheld gaming device.

: The Ink Console is a hybrid gaming device with a 7.5-inch e-ink display, blending a traditional e-reader and game console. Powered by the ESP32-D0WDQ6 microprocessor, it supports interactive stories akin to classic text-based games like Zork. Developer Dana Puch's firm, Singular 9, plans a crowdfunding launch on March 1 and aims to make it open source thereafter.

The Ink Console introduces a blend of e-ink technology with interactive storytelling in a unique handheld gaming device. Featuring a 7.5-inch e-ink display with an 800 x 480 resolution, it is designed for text-based adventures, supported by an ESP32-D0WDQ6 dual-core microprocessor and 4MB of flash memory.

The storytelling experience is enhanced by interactive elements where users make choices that shape their narrative journey. Gamebooks for the console cover a variety of genres, and users can add new content via the built-in SD card reader or develop their own stories using the included Software Development Kit.

Singular 9, led by Dana Puch, plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign on March 1 to bring the console to market. Following the campaign, the device is expected to be released as open source, encouraging a community of developers to modify and expand its capabilities with additional hardware or software customizations.
