Ed Boon says Mortal Kombat 1 could have years of updates and DLC.

Ed Boon, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat series, revealed during San Diego Comic-Con that Mortal Kombat 1 will receive years of content and updates. The game's second year will include the Khaos Reigns story DLC expansion, a new Kombat Pack that adds six fighters, and a free update introducing Animalities.

Boon compared this plan to Mortal Kombat 11's model, which received ongoing updates including Aftermath and Ultimate DLCs. He reiterated that the second year’s updates are just the beginning and anticipated years of content for the game.

Warner Bros. had also expressed its commitment to live service games earlier this year, emphasizing a move away from standalone console releases. The first updates for Mortal Kombat 1's new content will begin rolling out this September, promising ongoing support and new features.
