Fortnite is set to launch a new first-person shooter mode called Ballistic, designed around 5v5 tactical gameplay. Scheduled for early access release on December 11, this mode introduces a new layer of competitive play where teams either plant a Rift Point Device, which explodes after 45 seconds, or work to stop the opposing team's plans.

Ballistic mode will initially offer one map named Skyline 10 and feature a limited selection of weapons and items. Players can expect more content in future major updates. Unique to this mode is the absence of Fortnite's traditional building mechanics, while allowing for game presets like Outfits and Back Blings to carry over into matches, excluding items like Pickaxes and Contrails.

Gameplay within Ballistic mode involves rounds where teams' roles swap every six rounds, and victory is achieved after winning seven rounds. The mode can be played in Ranked or Unranked matches and will be available globally except in South Korea and Russia, with work ongoing to include these regions. Player contributions during early access will be key in refining the game.
