Google adds Gemini to its Education suite
Google enhances its Education suite with Gemini AI, offering new features for educators and students priced at $24-36 monthly.
Google has recently introduced Gemini to its Education suite, adding a host of AI-powered tools. Announced at the Google I/O developer conference, the Gemini add-on will be available through Google Workspace and offers capabilities in Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet. There are two pricing plans: Gemini Education, which costs $24 per month or $192 per year, and Gemini Education Premium at $36 per month or $288 per year. The premium plan includes additional features like AI-powered note-taking and summaries in Meet as well as data loss prevention. However, students over 18 can access some of these features without subscribing to any of the plans.
Google has integrated new education-focused features into Gemini, aiming to assist both educators and students. The AI can explain topics step-by-step, help students practice material, and access data from resources like Rice University's OpenStax textbooks. Educators can use Gemini to create lesson plan templates, differentiate content for various student needs, summarize research, and provide personalized feedback. These new tools are designed to make learning and teaching more efficient and tailored to individual needs.
In addition to Gemini, Google introduced LearnLM, generative AI models aimed explicitly at the education sector. These models are already integrated into products like YouTube, Google Search, Google Classroom, and Google's Gemini apps. The new capabilities also include AI-powered quizzes integrated into academic videos on YouTube, making educational content more interactive and engaging. Overall, Google is significantly strengthening its Education suite with advanced AI features to better serve educators and students.
