Google AI mode is expanding its capabilities with a larger AI from Gemini
Google enhances AI Mode with advanced Gemini 2.5 Pro for better search and reasoning.

Google is significantly expanding its AI Mode by integrating the more powerful Gemini 2.5 Pro model. This upgraded version brings enhanced reasoning, better summarization, and more accurate responses across Google Search. Users can now access a switchable AI model interface, allowing toggling between lightweight and full Gemini Pro responses depending on the complexity of the query. The expansion also includes Deep Search, a feature that dissects a question into multiple sub-queries, gathers answers from across the web, and returns comprehensive, multi-step responses with sources and explanations.
Gemini 2.5 Pro’s rollout comes as AI Mode reaches over 100 million monthly users in the U.S. and India, showing Google’s growing dominance in AI-enhanced search experiences. The Gemini app, meanwhile, has surpassed 450 million monthly active users, underscoring the widespread integration of generative AI across Google's ecosystem. AI Mode is specifically optimized for longer, more research-heavy questions, such as explaining complex code, historical context, or step-by-step math solutions, areas where traditional Search typically falls short.
Alongside model improvements, AI Mode introduces new assistant-like features. It can now act on behalf of users by making phone calls to local businesses using Google Duplex technology. This feature is currently limited to U.S. users but marks a significant step toward agentic AI—systems that can take actions, not just return information. Responses can be delivered via text or email, making scheduling and information retrieval more fluid and interactive.
Google is also linking AI Mode more deeply with user data and apps, allowing Gemini to access Gmail, Docs, and Calendar with user permission. This enables context-rich, personalized answers such as drafting emails or summarizing meetings. These integrations highlight Google’s strategy of turning Gemini into a universal assistant across Android, Chrome, Workspace, and even its upcoming XR devices, essentially making Gemini the central intelligence layer of all Google platforms.
Ultimately, these changes reflect a broader AI shift at Google. From Veo 3 for video generation to Gemini Live for real-time audio interactions and Project Mariner’s web agent, Google is embedding AI deeply across its product suite. AI Mode is no longer just an experimental feature—it’s a growing pillar of Search that leverages multimodal reasoning, real-time responsiveness, and soon, action-taking autonomy.
