Google Chat is adding a new feature called huddles, which is reminiscent of a feature available on Slack. Huddles allow users to quickly initiate conversations without scheduling an audio or video call, providing a fast communication option that mimics impromptu discussions at the office.

To start a huddle, users can click on the phone icon in a chat and begin the conversation instantly. Similar to Slack and Discord, the huddle can also be switched to a video call within the ongoing meeting, offering flexibility in communication forms.

The huddle feature will be rolled out to Google Chat users in stages. Those with rapid release domains will receive the update by December 20, while users with scheduled release domains can expect to access it starting January 6.
