Google quietly announces its next flagship AI model
Google quietly launched Gemini 2.0 amid DeepSeek's rising prominence.

Google has introduced its latest AI innovation, the Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental, choosing a subdued launch via a changelog update in its Gemini chatbot app. This model supersedes the Gemini 1.5 Pro and is now available to Gemini Advanced users, promising improved factual accuracy and performance in complex coding and mathematics tasks.
The release of Gemini 2.0 Pro comes when Chinese AI startup DeepSeek is gaining attention with its competitive AI models. Despite Gemini 2.0 Pro being in an early preview phase with potential for unexpected behavior, it lacks real-time info access but offers priority access for Gemini Advanced subscribers who are encouraged to provide feedback for development.
In conjunction with the Pro model, Google has made the Gemini 2.0 Flash model available to all users in the Gemini app, where it will stay as the default model for the time being. Both moves highlight Google's efforts to advance its AI offerings while remaining attentive to community feedback during experimental launches.
