Google will let platforms and devices employees leave voluntarily prior to layoffs
Google offers voluntary exits to its US Platforms and Devices employees before layoffs.

Google has announced a voluntary exit program for employees in its Platforms and Devices division in the US, preceding impending layoffs. This offer is available to those reporting directly to VP Rick Osterloh, allowing them to leave with a severance package if they sign up by February 20, 2025.
The Platforms and Devices team, comprising 25,000 employees, was formed by merging Google's Android and hardware teams. It's responsible for products such as Android, Chrome, ChromeOS, Pixel, Nest, and Fitbit. The initiative targets employees struggling with work demands or dissatisfied with the hybrid work environment.
The decision comes ahead of the company's fourth-quarter 2024 earnings report, which may reveal financial challenges influencing these layoffs. Employees have expressed satisfaction with the voluntary exits option, initially suggested by them amidst Google's cost reduction plans. They will receive confirmation of their eligibility for the severance package by March 25.
