GTA V finally gets its 'next-gen' update on PC, three years after consoles
GTA V's 'next-gen' update arrives on PC with ray tracing and enhancements.

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) finally brings its 'next-gen' update to PC players, aligning them with console users after a three-year wait. Released by Rockstar Games, the update comes at no additional cost for current owners and significantly enhances the Los Santos experience. 'PC players of Grand Theft Auto V have at long last reached parity with their console brethren,' writes Anna Washenko for Engadget.
The update is available as a free download for users who have an existing copy of GTA V. This latest iteration includes the Expanded & Enhanced edition, which houses both the new version and the older Legacy edition, now delisted from digital storefronts in favor of the updated offering. Both Story Mode and Online progress can be seamlessly migrated, allowing players to transition smoothly to the latest version.
Key technical improvements from the console versions are part of the update, providing enhancements in graphics and performance. For PC users who meet the recommended specifications, the update introduces advanced ray tracing capabilities, further improving visual fidelity. In addition to these technical upgrades, several new content features, such as ambient wildlife, photography challenges, new vehicles, and access to the GTA+ subscription service, are also included.
This update is part of Rockstar Games' broader initiative to upgrade several entries in its Grand Theft Auto franchise. Previous efforts include the remastering of classic titles such as Grand Theft Auto III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas. The nostalgic reboots have been popular with fans but expectations continue to soar for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI.
The update not only modernizes one of the most beloved video games in the series but also reinforces Rockstar Games' commitment to enhancing its legacy titles for newer technology. As the PC edition catches up with consoles, players eagerly look forward to what's next in the Grand Theft Auto universe, with anticipation building for new adventures in Grand Theft Auto VI.
