The new device features swappable accessories like the Flashy Outfit and Wireless Outfit to enhance functionalities. Priced at £199/€249, the HMD Fusion runs on Android 14 and aims to encourage hardware development through an open-source developer kit. The phone includes a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, 6GB RAM, and a 6.56-inch HD+ display.

HMD Global has launched the HMD Fusion, a new modular smartphone that allows users to alter hardware and software features by adding various 'Outfits'. The Flashy Outfit includes a ring light for cameras, while the Rugged Outfit offers IP68 protection against dust and water.

The Wireless Outfit introduces wireless charging, and the Gaming Outfit provides physical controls for gamers. The base HMD Fusion, costing £199/€249, comes with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, 6GB RAM, and 128GB storage, running on Android 14.

Additional features include 5G NR, Bluetooth 5.1, and a 5000mAh battery offering up to 65 hours of use. To reduce e-waste, HMD Global won’t include a wall charger, instead offering it as a paid add-on. This modular approach encourages developers to create more hardware accessories using an open-source developer kit.
