Instagram now allows you to share Spotify songs with audio to stories
Instagram now lets users preview Spotify songs in Stories, boosting music discovery without leaving the app.

Instagram now allows users to share Spotify songs directly to their Stories with actual audio playback, marking a significant upgrade from the previous static image and link approach. When viewers tap into a Story containing a shared Spotify track, they can now hear a short snippet of the song without leaving Instagram. This enhancement streamlines music discovery and sharing within the app, aiming to boost engagement through sound.
This feature builds on Instagram’s broader efforts to integrate music more deeply into the user experience. Earlier in 2025, Instagram added a feature allowing users to post what they’re listening to on Spotify directly into Notes. That update included the song title, artist, and a play button linking back to Spotify. Now, with the audio preview in Stories, the platform goes a step further by bringing part of the listening experience into the app itself.
The update reflects a growing trend among social media platforms to incorporate music more seamlessly into user content. TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube Shorts have all emphasized short-form video with audio as a central element, and Instagram is catching up by making Stories more interactive through music. This helps creators and listeners alike express identity and emotion through sound, not just visuals.
For Spotify, the integration offers new discovery and sharing avenues. By enabling users to showcase their favorite tracks to followers with audio samples, Spotify gains a richer, native presence on Instagram. This could increase user traffic back to Spotify while simultaneously encouraging more sharing of music across platforms.
Instagram is also rolling out other updates alongside this feature, such as customizable profile grids and new font options. These changes aim to encourage creativity without pressure, aligning with Meta's recent push to support self-expression in low-stakes formats like Stories and Notes, rather than just highly polished Reels or feed posts.
