Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27788 marks a significant update by providing full MIDI 2.0 support, aimed at enhancing the experience for musicians. MIDI 2.0 brings advanced features such as high-speed data transmission and improved timing, making it a vital upgrade from the classic MIDI 1.0 standard.

Microsoft's efforts involve a complete rewrite of their MIDI support, relying on the open-source Windows MIDI Services project. This new MIDI stack, compatible with 64-bit systems, ensures seamless integration across all modern Windows architectures, including Arm64-based Copilot+ PCs.

Additionally, Microsoft collaborated with the Association of Musical Electronics Industry of Japan and AmeNote to develop a USB MIDI 2.0 class driver for compatibility with all MIDI devices. The build also introduces enhancements like a 1-click resume for OneDrive and selective game installations from the Microsoft Store.
