Meta and Instagram spotted developing a new social music-sharing feature
Meta and Spotify are testing a feature to share music on Instagram Notes continuously, as discovered by Alessandro Paluzzi.
Meta and Spotify are testing a potential new feature for Instagram's Notes that enables users to continuously share their Spotify activity. This was discovered by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who frequently uncovers unreleased features. If launched, this would further develop Instagram's 2022 feature that allowed users to share 30-second song clips in Notes, available in markets with music licensing rights.
A partnership with Spotify could automate song postings on Instagram, providing a steady stream of content even when users are engaged with Spotify. Currently, Spotify lets users connect with Facebook to see friends' streaming activities and has experimented with a real-time Community feature. Instagram has also added a component hinting at deeper Spotify integration with its app.
Meta and Spotify share a common adversary in Apple, which they believe limits their in-app payment management and app distribution due to App Store commissions. Both companies have faced competition from Apple's music services, and Spotify's earlier partnership with Meta included a miniplayer streaming Spotify on Facebook. They see this ongoing collaboration as a strategy to compete with TikTok on music discovery.
