Modders negate God of War Ragnarök PSN requirement after a brief review bombing
God of War Ragnarök's PSN requirement on PC led to review bombing, but modders quickly removed it with two DLL files.
God of War Ragnarök, which required a PlayStation Network (PSN) account for its PC version, faced review bombing that pushed its reviews to 'Mixed'. Despite clear prior notices from Sony and media outlets, players expressed frustration over the necessity of a PSN account for a single-player game, reminiscent of the backlash from Helldivers 2.
Adding to the confusion, some users mistook PSN for PlayStation Plus, mistaking the requirement as a subscription service need. Concerns from regions without PSN access also compounded the criticism. Nevertheless, it's noted that US accounts don't require extensive personal information for PSN account creation, countering some claims.
In response, PC modders quickly uploaded a mod on Nexus, effectively allowing the game to run without needing PSN integration. Players simply had to copy two DLL files into the game directory and opt-out of linking PSN and Steam accounts. This solution proved especially beneficial for those in regions where PSN isn't available.
