More Switch games are receiving upgrades for the Switch 2
Nintendo is upgrading iconic Switch games for Switch 2 with visual upgrades and free GameShare, launching on June 5.

Nintendo has announced that several of its popular Switch games are receiving complimentary upgrades for the Switch 2. While these enhancements are less drastic than the Switch 2 editions of 'Breath of the Wild' and 'Tears of the Kingdom', they nonetheless provide improved gameplay experiences at no additional cost to the player. With a planned availability aligned with the Switch 2's launch on June 5, 2025, these updates are set to bring visual upgrades, gameplay enhancements, and new features to an array of beloved titles.
Among the games benefiting from the free updates are several from Nintendo's most prominent game franchises. Standout titles include multiple Mario games such as 'Super Mario Odyssey', 'Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury', and 'New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe'. Not to be left out, the Pokémon series sees enhancements for 'Pokémon Scarlet' and 'Pokémon Violet'. These updates primarily focus on improving resolution and frame rates, ensuring a more fluid and immersive experience on the new hardware.
In addition to visual and performance upgrades, Nintendo is introducing new multiplayer functionalities through a feature called GameShare. For example, 'Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury' and 'Super Mario Odyssey' will support multiplayer modes that allow for cooperative play locally or online with GameChat sharing capabilities. Other titles, including 'Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker', also benefit from GameShare, enhancing social interactions and replayability. The enhancements are confirmed to be varied, fine-tuning experiences across the legacy titles.
The initiative to upgrade these existing games is a move to ensure that Switch users continue to enjoy their favorite titles with enhanced quality and new features, even as they transition to the new console. By providing these updates free of charge, Nintendo maintains a user-friendly approach that respects and rewards customer loyalty while simultaneously boosting the appeal and longevity of its game catalog.
With the Switch 2's launch confirmed for June 5, Nintendo has urged players to promptly install the necessary system update to access these new features immediately upon release. Engadget journalist Will Shanklin detailed many of these changes, providing a comprehensive overview of the titles that will benefit from this generational upgrade. As excitement builds ahead of the console's release, the gaming community eagerly anticipates taking full advantage of these enhancements across their existing and new game libraries.
