Nintendo responds to Donkey Kong credits furore, says it values "contributions that all staff make"
Nintendo omits Retro Studios from credits of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD.

Nintendo has recently been criticized for omitting the original Retro Studios development team from the credits of the Donkey Kong Country Returns HD remaster. While the remaster showcases Forever Entertainment as the key developer, Nintendo merely mentions the original team by broadly stating that the HD version is "based on the work" of its predecessors.
In response to the omission, Nintendo reiterated its commitment to properly credit everyone who contributes to their video games. Despite acknowledging the importance of recognizing all contributors, Nintendo has yet to explain why the original team was left out of this project’s credits and similar omissions occurred in past releases like the Metroid Prime Remastered.
This issue isn’t an isolated incident as seen when Zoid Kirsch, a former Retro Studios engineer, voiced his disappointment over the uncredited work in Metroid Prime Remastered in 2023. Additionally, freelance translators for Nintendo have also expressed dissatisfaction for not getting credit on their high-profile projects. Yet, despite these issues, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD received mixed reviews, being seen as a satisfying platformer, maintaining interest with three out of five stars according to Eurogamer's Katharine.
