Nintendo Switch 2 withstands over 50 hammer blows in a rigorous durability test
Nintendo Switch 2 proves its durability by surviving over 50 hammer blows in JerryRigEverything's intense test.

In a recent durability test by YouTube creator Zack Nelson, known for his channel JerryRigEverything, the Nintendo Switch 2 was subjected to serious stress tests to gauge its toughness and resilience. Nelson's approach involved using heavy channel lock pliers to strike the device, simulating scenarios of accidental damage such as dropping or sitting on the console. Over the course of the testing, the Switch 2 withstood over 50 blows before its screen succumbed to the force, shattering and scattering glass. However, the device continued to operate after a reset, impressing with its durability.
Nelson's examination also included a teardown of the Nintendo Switch 2 to explore the internal structure, where he discovered the modularity of several components such as Joy-Con 2 analog sticks and the headphone jack. He noted that the design allows for convenient repairs, which can be performed by users at home using only a Phillips and a specialized tri-point driver. Despite this advantage, he criticized the difficulty of battery replacement due to the strong glue holding it in place, requiring the use of alcohol to loosen it.
Additionally, Nelson tested the protective film promised by Nintendo to prevent glass shattering. He found that removing this film led to the screen shattering into needle-like shards, confirming Nintendo's safety claims about the protective layer. Nelson's test underlined the importance of keeping the protective film intact to maintain user safety upon the device sustaining extreme impacts.
Nelson reported some limitations in the device's repairability, pointing out that certain elements like the USB-C ports and game card slot are not modular. Damage to these parts could necessitate motherboard replacement, raising concerns about the service cost and technical skill required for repair. His review reflected both the strengths and vulnerabilities in the console's design.
Overall, the Nintendo Switch 2 demonstrated an impressive capacity to endure stress and damage far beyond normal wear and tear, aligning with Nintendo’s reputation for durability. Despite certain repair drawbacks, its performance under punishment showed that the console remains robust, undoubtedly encouraging users about its longevity and resistance against potential accidents.
