Nvidia and AMD rush to stockpile graphics cards ahead of Trump tariff that could raise prices by 40%
Nvidia and AMD rush to stockpile GPUs to avoid a Trump tariff raising prices by 40% by January 20.

Nvidia and AMD are intensifying the production and shipment of their graphics cards to circumvent the Trump administration's impending tariffs, scheduled to start on January 20. A possible 40% price increase due to these tariffs could raise the estimated $1,799 price of Nvidia's RTX 5090 to over $2,500.
These measures include imposing 10% to 20% tariffs on imported goods, with a special 60% increase on Chinese imports, aimed at boosting US-based manufacturing. The implications of such tariffs could escalate costs not only for GPUs but also for laptops, smartphones, monitors, and other tech products primarily assembled in China.
Nvidia is preparing to introduce the RTX 5000 series at CES, and AMD is planning to launch the Radeon 9000 series. To mitigate cost hikes, manufacturers are stockpiling products in the US ahead of the tariff's enforcement, though they may eventually need to raise prices, which could dampen consumer demand.
