OpenAI rolls out Advanced Voice Mode with more voices and a new look
OpenAI is launching Advanced Voice Mode for ChatGPT Plus and Teams users, featuring five new voices and improved accents.
OpenAI announced that it is rolling out Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) to an expanded set of ChatGPT's paying customers, starting with Plus and Teams subscribers. Enterprise and Edu customers will begin to receive access next week. As part of the rollout, AVM has been redesigned and will now be represented by a blue animated sphere instead of animated black dots. Users will receive a pop-up notification in the ChatGPT app when AVM is available to them.
ChatGPT has also gained five new voices named Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale, bringing the total to nine. This change seems intended to make the interactions feel more natural. One notable omission from the new voices is Sky, which was removed following a legal threat from Scarlett Johansson. ChatGPT's video and screen-sharing capabilities from the spring update are also not included in this rollout, with OpenAI not providing a new timeline for their release.
OpenAI has made various improvements to AVM, including better understanding of accents and smoother, faster conversations. In our tests, glitches were common, but the company claims this has improved. The customization features, Custom Instructions and Memory, are also being expanded to AVM. However, AVM is not yet available in regions such as the EU, U.K., Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein.
