OpenAI teases a ‘simplified’ GPT-5 model

OpenAI shifts to GPT-5, Musk's OpenAI bid faces conditions, and TikTok returns to app stores.

: OpenAI canceled its planned o3 model release in favor of integrating it into a new 'simplified' GPT-5 model. TikTok returned to U.S. app stores after being banned due to a national security law. Elon Musk's $97.4 billion bid for OpenAI hinges on maintaining its nonprofit status. Google also expanded NotebookLM Plus and the app developer Pinksky launched its Android version.

OpenAI announced the cancellation of its intended release of the o3 AI model, opting instead to incorporate it into a future 'simplified' GPT-5 model that will integrate with ChatGPT and its API. In the interim, GPT-4.5 will be launched as the company's final model not utilizing chain-of-thought methodology according to CEO Sam Altman.

TikTok has been restored to the U.S. app stores by Apple and Google after being previously removed due to a national security law banning it. The reinstatement occurred after a letter from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi assured that the ban would not be immediately enforced, also covering video editor CapCut and social media app Lemon8.

Elon Musk's $97.4 billion bid to purchase OpenAI comes with the condition that the organization remains nonprofit. Google has expanded its AI service, NotebookLM Plus, offering it to subscribers of Google One AI Premium, with enhanced features and usage limits.
