OpenAI’s Sora video generator is launching for ChatGPT Pro and Plus subscribers — but not in the EU
OpenAI's Sora video generator launches for ChatGPT subscribers, but excludes the EU.

OpenAI has launched Sora, a video generation tool, for its ChatGPT Pro and Plus subscribers outside the European Union. The launch features a version called Sora Turbo, capable of creating 5 to 20-second videos with various aspect ratios and resolutions, offering tools for creativity and editing, such as the Re-mix tool and Storyboard interface.
Credits are necessary for creating videos with Sora, with costs varying according to the video resolution and duration. Pro and Plus subscribers are allocated monthly credits that do not roll over, with Pro plans allowing unlimited low-priority videos without watermarks. Sora currently faces capacity issues as it rolls out.
European Union users are excluded from Sora's launch due to the region's intricate regulatory requirements, which have previously delayed other OpenAI features like Advanced Voice Mode. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, noted an effort to include EU users but could not provide a timeline. The delay reflects broader trends faced by AI companies like Meta and Microsoft with EU data regulations.
