Playdate season 2 review: Fulcrum Defender, Dig! Dig! Dino!, and Blippo+
Playdate Season 2 starts with standout games and a unique TV service.

Playdate Season 2 launched on May 29, 2025, bringing a new batch of 12 games released over six weeks, with two titles dropping every week for $39. The season kicked off with three titles instead of two—Fulcrum Defender, Dig! Dig! Dino!, and the surprise addition Blippo+. These games highlight the platform’s continued push for quirky, experimental gameplay designed around the Playdate’s signature crank.
Fulcrum Defender, from Subset Games (FTL, Into the Breach), is a crank-based arcade shooter. Players rotate their ship using the crank to aim and shoot waves of enemies in a survival mode that lasts up to 10 minutes. Random upgrades and roguelike elements make each run unique. Its minimalist visuals and focused challenge deliver a tight and rewarding gameplay loop.
Dig! Dig! Dino! is a Minesweeper-style puzzle game by Dom2D and Fáyer. Players dig through grids to uncover fossils and artifacts while managing a limited number of moves. As they progress, players can upgrade their tools to dig more efficiently. With its cheerful art and relaxed pacing, it’s a satisfying, low-pressure experience perfect for short sessions.
Blippo+ breaks from traditional gameplay with its strange, full-motion video (FMV) format. Players flip through oddball channels featuring mock sitcoms, commercials, and surreal content. Updated weekly, the game feels like a living, evolving parody of late-night television, blending humor and mystery to keep players checking back regularly.
Playdate Season 2 continues the console’s tradition of offering distinctive, bite-sized gaming experiences. With promising upcoming titles like Shadowgate PD, Long Puppy, and Tiny Turnip, this season builds on the playful creativity that defines the handheld’s charm.
