Releasing on November 7, 2024, the PlayStation 5 Pro quickly became popular among hardcore gaming enthusiasts despite a sticker price of $700. In the US, the console achieved 19% of total PlayStation 5 sales and contributed to 28% of the month's PS5 revenue, according to analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana.
The performance and sales comparisons between PS5 Pro and its predecessor, PS4 Pro, show interesting dynamics. Although PS5 Pro's revenue greatly surpassed that of PS4 Pro's launch, unit sales were 12% lower. Differences in market and challenges when PS4 Pro was released in November 2016 might have played a role.
Globally, the high price does not seem to deter potential buyers as the PS5 Pro represented 26% of console sales in the UK and 63% of PS5 sales in Japan. Despite initial negative reception discussed in Rolling Stone related to modest performance improvements, the console attracts gamers. Looking ahead, uncertainties about its longevity remain, echoing scenarios of past consoles with similar trajectories.
