Pokémon Go maker Niantic is reportedly selling its games division
Niantic seeks to sell its games division to Scopely for $3.5 million.

Niantic, the creator of Pokémon Go, is reportedly looking to sell its game development business to Scopely, owned by Savvy Games Group, for approximately $3.5 million. The discussions are based on anonymous sources, as neither Niantic nor Scopely have commented on the potential deal.
Despite its success with Pokémon Go, Niantic faced challenges with subsequent titles, leading to multiple layoffs and project cancellations. In 2022, it reduced its workforce by 8%, closing projects like Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, and further cut 230 jobs in 2023 while canceling NBA and Marvel games.
Niantic has been advancing its technology, exemplified by updates to its Scaniverse app, allowing users to create real-world object models. The company expressed its ambition to develop a large geospatial model to enhance scene understanding by connecting it to countless other scenes globally using machine learning.
