Square Enix has launched a new line of merchandise for the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy IX, exciting fans with various new items. This includes plushies of the main characters, black mage hats, and figurines of popular characters Zidane and Garnet. However, the standout item from this collection is a new Vivi Ornitier mug, which features a large hat lid, beloved by fans of the series.

The Vivi Ornitier mug is priced at 3,520 yen, approximately 25 US dollars, and it has quickly become a talking point among fans. Unfortunately, this highly coveted mug is currently available only through the Japanese Square Enix store, which does not ship internationally. Consequently, fans outside Japan will need to use services like a forwarding service from Japan or purchase from retailers such as Ami Ami.

In addition to the Vivi mug, Square Enix has released new acrylic stands featuring updated designs for all eight party members in Final Fantasy IX. These are available in North America and Europe alongside other merchandise like Garnet's silver necklace and a Timeless Tale vinyl.

There is speculation that all this merchandising and celebration is leading up to a much-anticipated announcement of a Final Fantasy IX remake. The idea of a remake was first leaked as early as 2021 in a significant Nvidia leak, and with so many other leaks having been confirmed, anticipation is building for an official reveal, possibly on or before 7th July 2025.

The reason behind Square Enix’s focus on Final Fantasy IX, compared to limited celebrations for other titles like Final Fantasy VII and VIII, is generating buzz. The former is celebrated with a dedicated Remake trilogy, while the excitement for a potential IX remake is palpable.
