Raspberry Pi releases the Pico 2 W, a $7 wireless-enabled microcontroller board
Raspberry Pi unveils the $7 Pico 2 W microcontroller with wireless features, Arm Cortex-M33, and RISC-V cores.
Raspberry Pi has introduced the Pico 2 W, a microcontroller board priced at $7, designed for scalable hardware projects. The board utilizes Raspberry Pi's RP2350 microcontroller, equipped with dozens of I/O pins for connecting with various components. Developers can start with a breadboard for initial projects before soldering components permanently.
The Pico 2 W incorporates a dual-core processor, offering both Arm Cortex-M33 and Hazard 3 RISC-V architectures operating at 150MHz. For developers, it supports coding in C, C++, and MicroPython, ensuring continuity and compatibility with previous boards. Its on-board storage includes 4 MB of flash memory and 520 KB of SRAM.
Wireless capabilities include support for 2.4GHz Wi-Fi (802.11n) and Bluetooth 5.2, though lacking 5GHz support. Raspberry Pi's focus on industrial and electronics manufacturing markets is evident, as these segments accounted for 72% of sales when the company went public. Pico 2 boards are available individually or in bulk, catering to varying consumer needs.
