RE9 is real: Resident Evil Requiem got a surprise SGF reveal and is launching in February
Resident Evil Requiem is releasing on Feb 27, 2026, after a surprise reveal at Summer Game Fest.

Capcom has officially announced Resident Evil 9: Requiem during Summer Game Fest 2025. The reveal came as a surprise after executive producer Jun Takeuchi initially downplayed expectations. The game marks the ninth mainline installment in the franchise and continues the survival horror legacy that defined earlier titles.
Resident Evil 9 is set for release on February 27, 2026, and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game is directed by Koshi Nakanishi, known for his work on Resident Evil 7. Capcom confirmed that this installment will blend the classic survival horror feel with cinematic storytelling and modern mechanics.
The story centers on Grace Ashcroft, an FBI agent investigating strange deaths at the Wremwood Hotel—coincidentally the site of her mother's unsolved murder eight years earlier. As Grace unravels the mystery, she begins experiencing hallucinations and awakens in a suspended gurney, suggesting deeper psychological horror and a larger conspiracy.
The trailer teased a devastated Raccoon City, including the iconic police department now in ruins. Sharp-eyed fans also noticed hints at the return of Lisa Trevor, a terrifying figure from earlier games, based on visual and audio cues within the footage.
Capcom stated that Requiem will conclude the narrative arc that began with Resident Evil 7. Launching just ahead of the franchise’s 30th anniversary in March 2026, the game is expected to serve as both a climactic finale and a tribute to Resident Evil's horror legacy.
