: Robert Zemeckis's film Here uses AI to de-age Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. Metaphysic's Live VFX tech allows real-time modifications. Over 40 minutes feature de-aged characters, keeping production under $45 million.

In the film Here, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, AI technology is used to de-age the actors in real-time. Developed by Metaphysic, the Live VFX system adapts faces instantly during filming without intrusive elements.

The AI system was trained on images from the actors' previous roles, adjusting for angles and lighting to create younger versions of the stars. This technology enabled efficient production, allowing filmmakers to adhere to a $45 million budget while featuring 40 minutes of de-aged footage.

This advancement in CGI reflects on the industry trend where AI's use is becoming less controversial for de-aging. Contrast exists, however, with the industry's potential AI application to recreate dead actors, highlighted by legal actions involving Disney and concerns from Robert Downey Jr.
